Here’s a simple recipe for making a chocolate cake:
Ingredients:
- 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
For the frosting:
- 1 and 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 1 and 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix everything together until well combined.
- Gradually add the boiling water to the batter while stirring continuously. The batter will be thin, but that’s normal.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
- Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer the cakes to a wire rack to cool completely.
- While the cakes are cooling, prepare the frosting. In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat and add the chocolate chips. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth. Let it cool for a few minutes.
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of frosting on top. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake with the remaining frosting.
- You can optionally decorate the cake with additional chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or any other desired toppings.
- Allow the frosting to set for a little while before serving.
Enjoy your homemade chocolate cake!
